Where to get coupons

When my oldest sister found out that I was doing couponing she asked where I find that coupons since most of hers aren't always for brands that are in the stores she shops at. I've also been asked by other friends and some co-workers on where do I get the amount of coupons that I use.  So hopefully this gives a little bit of insight.

So the first thing that I do with getting coupons is the same as a lot of people and that is getting the Sunday paper.  Sadly I use to be a newspaper editor and I don't even give the news a second glance since the writing is worse then my unedited blog here.  One thing that you can do is contact the local paper and see if they sell old copies of the Sunday paper with all the ads in place.  My local paper does for a $1 a copy.  They also have a deal were you can get only the Sunday paper.  A good plus.

So how I set my ads down for the best deals.  I set Target, Walgreens and other similar stores in one pile then I set the grocery ads in another. Generally the manf. coupons come in packets, check to see if there is a website that the packet creators use.  You can usually find printable coupons.

Check the store ads and see what coupons and deals they have in their ads.  One of my growing favorite is Walgreens, they have a little mix of manf. and store only coupons.  The store also prints coupon books for each month and I usually get two of them when I am in the store.

So besides the papers, I get a lot of deals from local loyalty cards, mostly they are free and I truly love my Kroger card.  The website allows me to load special coupons on my card and print out a user friendly list.  Not all stores have these cards but they are something I love and if they are very low cost or free, it can be worth it.

Now that we are talking about the web, there are a lot of sites that try to capture on the growing coupon movement.  Sadly they are not always the best or truly honest. There are some sites that also charge for coupons, while I don't do it, if you think it would be best please feel free to let me know how well they work for you.

One site that I find useful is www.couponmom.com, the site has access to other sites that can really allow you access to other good sites coupons as well.

Another tip is if you have a lot of coupons for a product that your store doesn't carry then ask your local grocery manager if they are able to bring the product in.  Kroger is awesome about it for me so ask.  Also make sure that you know your stores' coupon policies.  There can be confusion about what stores will accept. some website coupons are not acceptable.  It's not that the store is bad but it just means you need to plan differently and don't just expect everything to go peachy if you break their rules.

A side note, if you have watch Extreme Couponers, there is some statements that have been said that I don't agree with and that is sticking with only one store.  I switch my stores from trip to trip, some have better deals from week to week. I feel that if you plan your trips out then you will max all possible savings.
